Two Spirit Reconciliation event features Survivor perspectives

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) is hosting an event with Intergenerational Survivors discussing “Two Spirit” what does it mean, where did it come from, and how do Indigenous roles of gender and identity help in redress and reconciliation?

Panelist Dr. Albert Mcleod has worked in support of the rights of Two-Spirit (2S), lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (2LGBTQ+) people in the local community and across the continent for more than 35 years. McLeod has ancestry from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and the Métis community of Norway House, and is known as a progressive thinker and visionary.  

Panelist Harlan Pruden is a Ph.D. student at UBC and the managing editor for the interactive online journal, TwoSpiritJournal.com. Harlan is First Nations and Cree/nēhiyaw, and is also on the board of Qmunity, a Vancouver LGBT, Queer and Two-Spirit community.

Host Candy Palmater is a First Nations standup-comedian and LGBTQ activist. She hosted her own national television show ‘The Candy Show’ which airs on APTN, and was a recurring guest on CBC’s ‘DNTQ’ (Definitely Not The Opera).
