The importance of teamwork with Luc Desmarais
Posted on June 15, 2020

Luc Desmarais is the interim Administrative Coordinator at the Centre. With more than 10 years of experience working for small museums including UBC’s Museum of Anthropology and Beaty Biodiversity Museum, his specialization in exhibition development and museum project management make him an asset to the Centre. Luc has developed a wide-ranging skillset that allows him to play many roles required of him as part of the team at the RSHDC.

Luc’s role at the Centre involves work such as finance and human relations, and managing staff the public space. “Every day is a little bit different,” he explains, “I never know what’s coming my way on any given day.” Luc emphasizes that problem-solving on the fly is a significant part of his work, which is why facilitating a connected team and community is important at the RSHDC. As someone who manages so many operations, Luc has the advantage of developing working relationships with everyone who has a role at the Centre.

“I’m really amazed at my co-workers and the work they’ve done to get the Centre up and running, and the work they’ve done in the past on residential schools and with Survivors… It is really motivating and inspiring to work alongside this group of people.”

Luc is also in the process of completing a certificate in project management from UBC Sauder Continuing Business Studies, which he is excited to apply to his ongoing work.

Luc moved into a Project Manager role at the Centre effective August 1, 2020.
